the California Specific Exam and
the Hydrogeology & Engineering Geology Certification Exams

COURSE FAQ's

When should I sign up for the course?
It would be best if you registered for the course that is about 6 months before the exam because the course is designed to focus you and give you direction in your studying process. The course is best used as a tool at the beginning of the studying process. In fact, about 25% of our students who are scheduled to take the exam immediately following the course end up postponing after taking the course when they discover just how much work they have to do to be prepared.
Should I buy the books first then sign up for a course later?
No, if you are sure you want to take a course you should register for the course because the books are included in the course price. The books are mailed when you register. If you have bought the books first there is a discount up to 80% of what you paid for the books depending on which version of the books you have and whether you are signing up for the review course for the ASBOG® exam alone or the ASBOG® + California Specific Exam combined courses.
What is included in the course price?
If you sign up for the review course for the ASBOG® exam, you will receive the Study Manual for the ASBOG® Exam, the Practice Quizzes book,a Simplified Blueprint of the ASBOG® Exam, and the Course Notes Packet. Flash Cards are not included.
If you sign up for the review course for the ASBOG® exam + California Specific Exam, you will receive the Study Manual for the ASBOG® Exam, the Practice Quizzes book, the California Specific Exam Study Manual, a Simplified Blueprint of the ASBOG® Exam, and the Course Notes Packets for both the ASBOG® course and the CA Specific course. Flash Cards are not included.
Do you just review the material in the study manuals during the course?
No, we use a set of course notes, that you will receive with your study manuals and are reserved exclusively for our students, to trigger us to talk about the needed topics. We do refer to specific figures and tables in the study manual as we go along but we do not specifically teach from the manual.
Why don't you teach classes closer to the exam?
The classes, both on-site and the webinars, are designed to give you the focus nd direction you will need to streamline your studying process. If you wait too long to begin your studying it will be difficult to find enough time to adequately study for the exam. After our last class it is difficult to pass unless you are able to study every waking hour that is not at work. We don't want our set our students up for failure by giving the impression that they have enough time to adequately study if we were to hold later classes.
Can you give me names for study partners?
Due to privacy issues we don't give out names. However, if you give us your name and contact information we will send them out to others in your region and they can contact you if they are interested.
Do you guarantee a passing score if I take your class?
No, because there is a lot of studying you need to do after taking the course. Our purpose is to give you the focus, direction and emphasis so you can then ascertain what it is that you need to follow up with depending on your education and experience and we can't keep tabs on you to make sure you do. That said, the pass rates of our students for both exams have never been less than 85%, or about 25% higher than the national pass rates, and sometimes as high as 99% passing.
What kind of facilities do you teach in?
We teach in meeting rooms at hotels near the airport for each city in which we teach. These hotels mostly have shuttles so if you have to fly in to take the course you don't need to rent a car. We also negotiate favorable rates for each of these hotels for sleeping rooms if you wish to stay over the night before the class. The meeting room facilities are set up classroom style with long tables and chairs, simulating the exam room conditions, and we limit the numbers of our students to fit comfortably in the rooms.
Do you offer Continuing Educations Units (CEU's)?
No, but we will provide upon request Proof of Attendance certificates that will describe the date and hours of attendance. These certificates are usually adequate for state requirements for continuing education. Most states will accept hour for hour value for continuing education requirements for maintaining your license while others require CEU Certificates. Check with your state.
    Do you have online courses?
Yes. Our online courses are taught as a live Webinar. The Webinar is taught as a 2-day course where half the course is presented each day. You must have administrator privileges on the computer used for the webinar.
    Who should take the Webinar?
The webinars are taught early for those who appropriately plan ahead and after all the onsite classes are over. If you like to be organized and focused early in your studying process, live somewhere too remote from one of our course locations or discovered our services too late to get enrolled in an on-site class, or just want to do it from the comfort of your own environment the webinars would be for you.
What are the computer specifications for the Webinar?
You will need to have administrator rights to the computer you use so the program we use for the live webinar can load.

    How does the Webinar work?
The Webinar is usually on Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 1pm Pacific Time. You will need to sign in a little early so the instructor(s) have time to get everything squared away to start on time. Three or four days before the webinar you will receive an email with a link in it for joining the webinar. You need to connect to the webinar from a computer that allows you to have administrative privileges to download the webinar app. If you are on a work computer you may not have those privileges so you will not be able to connect unless you make prior arrangements with the system administrator. You should all have your course notes, and study manuals with you, these will have been mailed to you. You can quit out and sign back in during the broadcast but it would be least disruptive if you didn't do that. The sound will work best if you use the computer sound system as opposed to using the telephone. You can listen on headphones from your computer. The orange bar will give you a menu where you can ask questions if you have them. The instructor will read the question aloud at the appropriate time and answer for every ones benefit. All students will be muted so there are no audible interruptions but any written questions can be answered.
When will I receive my sign in information?
Three or four days before the webinar you will receive an email with a link in it for joining the webinar. We recommend you sign on right away so you receive the reminders one day and one hour out. Please sign in the morning of the class about 10 minutes early so you don't miss anything, we start precisely on time.
